Samih Zaia
'The Christ of Aaru' a graphite drawing by Samih Zaia based on the Salvador Dali painting 'Christ of Saint John of the Cross'. A dramatically foreshortened overhead view of Christ crucified floats in a dark void. Blood drips from the foot of the cross to a red lake at the base of the drawing.
'Yichud', a graphite drawing by Samih Zaia. A male figure stretches his arm out to hold a glowing branch. He appears to be lying down or pulling himself acroos the ground. Only his face, upper body and arms are in frame, emerging from darkness. He is drawn realistically, except for a dark cave-like hollow in the left side of his chest.

Samih brings together works of graphite that are inspired by dreams and stories from his Aramaic heritage. Enter into dialogue with the figures in each piece, as they desire or fear connection with you, and unravel their dance between light and shadow.
